Classes
In-person classes are held on Thursday evenings at The Dance Hall Kittery.
Though classes run year-round, follow us on Facebook or Instagram to keep up-to-date on our class schedule.
Drum class with Namory Keita
Class with Namory includes both djembe and dundun parts (both accompaniments and solos) of traditional Guinean rhythms. Namory’s infectious joy as a drummer and a teacher will inspire you whether it’s your first time playing or you’ve been studying for years.
Thursdays
5:30 to 6:30 pm
$20.00
Bring your own djembe for class or let us know ahead if you need to borrow one.
*Stay after drum class to help accompany dance class and continue the learning.
Dance class with Liz Fowler
Class begins with a warm-up, a combination of stretching and aerobic movement. This is followed by a high-energy class where you will learn a traditional dance from Guinea, including some of the context around it. You’re welcome to adapt moves to fit your body during warm-up and class.
Thursdays
6:45 to 7:45 pm
Sliding Scale Donations (Often people pay $15 but there is no minimum.) Half of donations after rent go to BIPOC organizations – both local and national.

When will your next session begin…for beginners?
Hi Susan. Our classes continue throughout the year. There aren’t any sessions, but all classs are open to all levels. Let us know if you have other questions. Liz
Do you have Facebook page?? Thanks
Hi! We don’t have a page, but we do have a Facebook group: Seacoast West African Dance and Drum
It’s been too long since I’ve sat at my drum, I will hope to join you in the New year. Still planning in Thursdays?
Hi Lisa. Yes, we’ll be there Thursdays. Namory Keita will be away until mid-February, but drum and dance classes will continue on – weather dependent.
